Research by UK-based mobile company e2save has revealed what it believes to be the formula for maximising your likes.

And actually, it's really simple.

According to them, there are four key types of photo that get more people clicking that little heart button.

So if your images don't fit into these categories, they're less likely to be an Insta-success.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have nailed their #FoodPorn pose

Apparently, your posts should either be holiday snaps, feature an animal, be celebrating an achievement or include food.

This does make sense, considering how big dog accounts and the #FoodPorn hashtag are.

Even so, we've taken a look at some of our favourite celebrities' pages to see if the rule actually applies.

As it turns out, it kinda does. Check out the evidence...

When Olivia Buckland shared this snap on the left from her hen party in Mykonos, she received 259k likes.

The photo of her relaxing in her pyjamas got just 36.4k. Still, not bad...

Millie Mackintosh's beach-side pose was far more popular than her gym shot

Millie Mackintosh's dreamy Maldives photo got an incredible 31k likes.

Meanwhile her workout snapshot reached 5.8k. Perhaps she needs to raise the bar...
